Laser Safety

All lasers, whether pointers or metal cutters should be treated with great respect, especially solid state lasers like Ruby which can easily blind and burn you. For safety regarding the laser work area please see the Laser Facility page. So for everyone's sake, please read the disclaimer below and all of this page before even touching a laser.

The laser projects within can blind, burn, and electrocute you, as well as cause equipement damages if not properly built. Please carefully read and follow all instructions, always wear laser goggles, and always put safety first.

Electrical

• DO NOT touch any capacitor or any of its appendages with first shorting it out
• Don't install a 20A breaker on 15A wiring or 20A plugs on 15A wiring, this will cause a fire and electrical shorts
• Ground all electrical equipment, chassis, and plumbing

Optical

• DO NOT stare into any laser beam or at any energized flashlamp, regardless of optical power
• ALWAYS wear eye protection rated for the wavelength of the laser you're working with
